Maine Maritime men's basketball fell to UMaine-Presque Isle, 74-67 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Sunday afternoon.

 

How it Happened: The Mariners and Owls went back-and-forth in the first half, with the Owls pulling ahead by 10 points with ten minutes left in the half. The Mariners quickly took back the lea, scoring 15 straight points. The Mariners held on to a six-point lead going into halftime.

 

Maine Maritime continued building their lead in the second, going up by 11 with 14 minutes left in the game. The Owls slowly starting cutting into the Mariners lead, knotting the game up at 53 with eight minutes on the clock. UMaine-Presque Isle then took the lead and never looked back against Maine Maritime, claiming a 74-67 victory.

 

Inside the Numbers:

  • Carter Rubin (Littleton, Colo.) led the Mariners with 17 points and seven rebounds.
  • Connor Tuerff (Hendersonville, Tenn.) added 16 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
  • Omar Chambers (Springfield, Va.) chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists off the bench.
  • Griffin Guerrette led  all scorers with 25 points, while Dany Harris had 16 and Parker Onorato tallied 15 for the Owls.
  • Maine Maritime shot 43.6% from the hardwood and 45.5% from the three point line, while the Owls shot 41.3% from the floor and 35.7% from beyond the arc.

Up Next: Maine Maritime falls to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in NAC play, while the Owls improve to 5-10 on the year and 3-4 in conference action. The Mariners return to action Tuesday, January 24 at 7:30pm when they host Husson University in a conference matchup.
