Maine Maritime men's basketball opened up their season by defeating FDU-Florham, 65-56 in the Stevenson Tip Off Classic on Friday evening. Curt Heinz (Stuttgart, Germany) tallied a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, along with a team-high five assists to start his sophomore campaign.
How it Happened: After some back-and-forth action in the first half, the Mariners took the lead off a three from Tuerff to swing the momentum their way. Maine Maritime kept building off that momentum, taking a nine point lead at half time.
The Mariners got the lead up to 12 points in the second half, before the Devils started chipping at the lead, getting within four points with seven minutes left on the game clock. Maine Maritime was able to hold on, claiming a 65-56 victory.
