Student Spotlight: Mackenzie Casburn
Here is what she has to say about her experience at Eastern Maine Community College "I am in my third year because I have switched from Liberal Studies to Early Childhood Education to Medical Office Technology. I currently work as a Resident Assistant (RA) in Kineo Hall and I am involved in the Golden Eagles Christian Fellowship club that has just been reformed. Overall, I feel like I belong here based on the interactions I have with teachers and students. Being at EMCC taught me not to be afraid to step out of my comfort zone and to grow as a person.
At first, I didn't know what to expect because I was moving out of home for the first time and barely knowing anyone. I was also taking classes remotely during the 2020-2021 school year. Living in the dorms has played a huge role with my experience at EMCC along with the commuters I see in the dining hall and library. I have made a lot of friends, both dorm students and commuters. Some of them are my best friends to this day. I also switched majors between December 2021 and January 2022; since then, I have been doing very well in my courses while having a lot of time for myself and getting involved in other campus activities.
When I graduate, I would like to work in hospital, doctor's office, or other medical related facility to do medical coding to start off with. Eventually, I would like to work from home or do the combination or working both from home and the future place I choose to work in."
