Well, almost. Last week, rangers were able to witness the miracle of (sea) life when one of the dog whelks in the Marine Tank started attaching egg capsules to the glass. In the wild, dog whelks will attach their egg capsules in dark rock crevices, keeping them cool, moist, and protected. Each capsule holds about 600 eggs! However, only 12-30 will develop and emerge as miniature dog whelks.
Stay tuned for more Tales from the Tank!
