Maine Maritime Academy Strong First Half Leads Mariners to Victory

Curt Heinz (Stuttgart, Germany) led the Mariners to a 73-61 victory over UMaine-Augusta in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening. The sophomore post player recorded a double-double with game-highs 23 rebounds and 20 points, along with four assists, one block, and a steal.

How it Happened: After the Moose scored the first points of the night, Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) found Carter Rubin (Littleton, Colo.) for a three to take the lead and the Mariners never looked back. As the first half continued, the Mariners kept building their lead, led by Heinz who tallied 14 points and Rubin who recorded all of his nine points of the evening. Maine Maritime ended the half with a comfortable 22 point lead.

The Mariners continued to build their lead in the second half, going up by 28 points at one point in the game. UMaine-Augusta kept clawing closer to the Mariners’ lead, but could never get close enough. The Mariners left the night with a victory and a score of 73-61.
