Maine Maritime’s Makenna Middleton (Peoria, Ill.) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, while Rachel Melampy (Duxbury, Mass.) was named the Player of the Week and Ila Smith (Lexington, Ky.) was named the Rookie of the Week.
Middleton anchored a Mariner defense that went 2-0 in conference action this week, tallying 18 digs, seven aces, two assists, and one kill. Against Husson University, the defensive specialist recorded seven digs, two assists, and one dig. She followed up on Sunday against UMaine-Presque Isle by recording game-highs of 11 digs and seven aces.
Melampy continues to dominate the court with 27 kills, 17 digs, six aces, three block assists, and one solo block in the two Mariner wins this week. Against Husson University, the outside hitter had a game-high 16 kills, on .667 hitting, six digs, three aces, and one block assist. She followed up on Sunday against UMaine-Presque Isle with a double-double on a game-high 11 kills and 11 digs, along with three aces, two block assists, and on solo block.
Smith had a great week for the Mariners in their two conference victories, recording 16 kills, on .625 hitting, four block assists, three digs, and two solo blocks. On Wednesday night against Husson university, the middle hit .500 for seven kills, along with three block assists, one solo block, and one dig. She followed up on Sunday with nine kills, hitting .750, two digs, one block assist, and one block.
