Beth Labbe (Brunswick, Maine) scored the game winning goal in triple overtime to lead the Mariners to a 10-9 victory against Massachusetts Maritime for the first time in program history.
How it Happened: The Buccaneers started off the game strong, dropping two goals on the Mariners in the four minutes of action. Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) nailed the first goal of the season for the Mariners at 10:30 to put Maine Maritime on the board. The two teams then traded goals the rest of the half and the Buccaneers took an one point lead over the Mariners.
Massachusetts Maritime came out on fire in the third quarter, outscoring the Mariners 3-1 to take a 7-4 lead going into the last 15 minutes of play. The Mariners dominated the fourth quarter, with Labbe scoring three goals, while Stoddard and Lily Cook (Southwest Harbor, Maine) each added one to give the Mariners an one point lead. The Buccaneers then found the back of the net with nine seconds left in the match to bring the game to overtime.
After two scoreless overtime periods, Labbe put one past the goalie to end the game with a Mariner victory.
