COA campus has a new, colorful addition thanks to the incredible work of muralist Sophy Tuttle Art! Sophy’s mural was created in collaboration with Allied Whale at the College of the Atlantic for The College of the Atlantic Summer Institute . Here’s what Sophy had to say:
“This mural was a dream project. I was invited to chat with the researchers at @alliedwhale to develop a design that both communicates aspects of what they do as researchers, and also celebrates their accomplishments over the last 50 years.
The fluke picture belongs to Whistler, the first humpback photographed in 2 different locations in the Atlantic, providing proof that each whale’s fluke is so unique that it can be used to identify them, like a fingerprint.
The dots and arrows in the background are drawn from research conducted by Allied Whale into breeding and feeding migratory patterns of the whales.”
