Bates senior captain Colby Stakun-Pickering broke the program record in the 60 meter dash, highlighting the MIT Tri-Meet Saturday for the men’s indoor track and field team.
Stakun-Pickering (Wellesley, Mass.) smashed his previous best time of 7.13 seconds, racing to the finish in 7.05 seconds, and moving up to the top spot on the program’s all-time top 10 list. He tops Isaiah Spofford ’15’s mark of 7.06 seconds, recorded in 2013. Stakun-Pickering finished second to MIT’s Jeremiah Budiman on Saturday, who won the race in 6.93 seconds. Senior Derek Shen (Bellevue, Wash.) also impressed in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.11 seconds, tying Colin Kraft ’15 for the third fastest time in program history.
Other top performers for Bates on Saturday:
- First-year Jackson Monz (North Logan, Utah) impressed in his collegiate debut, winning the 800 meters in 1:59.39.
- Senior captain Liam Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) won the 35-pound weight throw with a personal record heave of 57-9.5 (17.61m).
- Sophomore Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.) took second in the 400 meters in 54.23 seconds.
- The 4×400 relay team of first-year Evan Migdole (Westbrook, Conn.), Stakun-Pickering, junior Walter Joachim-DelPoio (Barrington, R.I.), and sophomore Cam Stathos (Wellesley, Mass.) finished in second place with a time of 3:34.32.
- Junior Jacob Goff (Scarborough, Maine) placed second in the shot put with a top throw of 48-8.75 (14.85m).
The Bobcats tallied 35 points as a team, just two points behind second-place University of Southern Maine. MIT won the meet with 87 points.
